INFLUENZA

Influenza activity in NSW is circulating at a high level, an unusual trend for this time of year.

Continue to offer vaccination while influenza viruses are circulating and a valid (non-expired) vaccine is available. Some 2025 influenza vaccine brands have an expiry date of February 2026. Eligible patients can receive the influenza vaccine for free annually.  

The Australian Health Protection Committee have released guidance for influenza surge over the holiday period.

Our purpose

The Central and Eastern Sydney PHN Immunisation Program aims to reduce the incidence of vaccine preventable diseases in the community by providing appropriate and timely information to immunisation providers and the community, and promote the delivery of the National Immunisation Program (NIP). 

Support for immunisation providers

We support general practices, pharmacies and residential aged care homes, to:

• Deliver immunisation services in accordance with the National Immunisation Program and the NSW Immunisation Schedule
• Improve CESPHN immunisation coverage rates through the delivery of QI activities. 
• Meet obligation for mandatory reporting of immunisation encounters to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR)
• Maintain vaccine potency and efficacy by adopting cold chain management (CCM) processes in accordance with the National requirements and NSW requirements

Remote support and site visits

The Immunisation Program Officers can assist with:

• Supporting immunisation providers with a range of immunisation information and resources
• Childhood immunisation overdue reports in areas of low coverage rates
• The access and use of AIR online 
• Advice in the event of a cold chain breach
• Advice in the event of a power outage 
• Data logger support and training
